Do I need to contact the dealership about the warranty of the car? I heard something about needing a third key and a possible problem with wiring if circuit city or someone else does it other than the dealership. i'm assuming the dealership would be really expensive. Has anyone had this done on a new car, any suggestions? Any idea on the different costs of installation/any good brands for the remote starters? Thanks

the first thing you should do is not buy such an expensive gift for a guy who is just your boyfriend. Wait until that man puts a ring on your finger.

If the dealership installs it the warranty should still be good. If an outside company does it there might be issues with voiding the warranty.

Around here remote starters cost between $250 to $450 (not at the dealership) I think the dealers usually charge about $50-$100 more. Astrostart is a decent brand

The Devil is in the details. Is the vehicle within driving range where you can inspect. How many owners. Any maintenance records. Is the original owners manual included. I would have a Toyota mechanic put it on a lift and inspect underneath carefully. There are rubber "boots" that hold certain lubricants vital to the drivetrain that tend to crack and leak with age. Has the Air Cond plumbing been switched out to accept the new type refridegerant. Do the belts and hoses look well maintained? My advice is to go ahead and find newer model with fewer miles. Older cars, even Toyotas with that many miles that have not been well maintained can turn into a money pit and leave you stranded. Investing more money now can mean saving lots of money and trouble in the future.

If it is done at any other place beside the Mitsubishi dealership the warranty will be voided. It is best to have the work done by them.

yes contact the dealer and make sure you won't be voiding the warranty

then go to an electronics store or any store that installs car alarms. You 'll be able to fnd one there. You can purchase it and have him bring it down to install later.

try a name brand one like Viper.
