I understand what you are saying.
The way I see it, as long as employees have the option of staying home and celebrating with family, what the store owners choose to do is not a problem. A lot of persons don't celebrate Christmas and engage in other religious celebrations that do not occur on that particular day. As a result, I don't think it would be too difficult for employers to allow Christian workers the day off without having to close the store.
I have to admit, it is extremely convenient having stores opened on Christmas Day, particularly if for some reason or the other you forgot to or were unable to purchase a specific item for the celebration. I guess a lot of store owners are trying to benefit from this reality.

Most stores are closed on Christmas Day. There are convenient stores and some restaurants that will be open.
Kmart has been on Christmas Day. I don't know if that is the case this year.
I agree. The employees of the stores and businesses should have the day off- regardless if they celebrate the holiday or not. It's nice to have a day off from all the hustle and bustle.

Not everyone celebrates Christmas, so it should be up to the company when they want to close or not. Besides even people who do celebrate Christmas are not always celebrating on the actual day of Christmas, and have nothing to do but go shopping, or to be working on that day so they can have the day they are celebrating off instead. And they get paid over time. This happened to me for many years (though not in retail sales) in one of my jobs and I loved it. It was peaceful and I got paid a lot of money, which helped pay for presents. And my family would celebrate the weekend before or the weekend after (which was also nice because there is no holiday pressures). Companies have the right to make up their policies as they see fit for what is best for the company and the staff overall.

It depends. Some employees don't mind working either because they don't celebrate Xmas or they don't mind getting paid time and a half. I don't think employees should be forced to work on Xmas, but if they want to, that business should be open for the day. I think everyone has had at least ONE year when they needed to purchase something desperately and no stores were open. So it would actually be a good thing for us forgetful people.

I agree, the only store open in Charleston, SC on Christmas is Walgreens. I don't even think they should be open. Oh yeah and the movie theater opens later on in the afternoon which is ok because at least the employees get to spend Christmas morning with their loved ones.

No ; Sunday use to be a family day until the blue law was done away with and stores opened on Sundays; when I was young , there weren't any stores open on Sunday; you visit family friends etc no shoppping; you made sure to get what you needed the day before; then some stores started to stay open and pay the fine for violating the law; soon all the stores were following and the law is no longer due to same.

Depends what kind of place it is. Most should be closed, I know I wouldn't want to work on the holiday's. I hated when I waitressed having to work on holidays, I missed the entire day with my family because I'd have to be in at like 10 in the AM and not get done til 11 at night.
People should know to have their shopping done prior to Christmas day.

Most places should not be open on Christmas since such a majority of people celebrate this holiday. But also places like gas stations, grocery stores, and entertainment places should be open. I say entertainment because I know that most people now make it a tradition to go to the movies and such. This might be the only time of the year that they get to go do something as a family.

No I don't think they should. Christmas is a special holiday and is not fair to the people that have to work then that they don't get to spend this holiday with their families like everybody else.

I mean some people need to work on Christmas. God bless them. Like cops. But maybe if people who do work on Christmas don't want to be alone. Should isntead of opening the store. They have a Christmas party for those people.
