Always fight oppression and the oppressors!

Yes, there are some situations that fighting and not rolling over *does* help; it depends on what kind of fighting you're talking about, though.

Someone says something that's mean, or that makes you feel bad, the best answer is not to use your fists (or boots, or whatever).

Sometimes fighting means using your words. Like when someone is saying something that's just *wrong* or mean or whatever, the best answer is often found in using your head calmly and finding the most scathing, intellectual, multi-syllabic answer you can come up with and fighting them using your words.

It's what lawyers do, and combined with a gutsy, level stare, it works wonders.

Outsmart them!

War is the only solution in some instances - remember the world wars? They got the job done.

Now fighting is less intense I suppose. If you intend to avoid personal injury, go for 'dispute management', or 'conflict resolution.' Long words for 'talk it over and try to fix differences.'

However, some parties are unable/unwilling to do the talking. they enjoy a good punch-up!

It is my belief that it is better to allow others to be wrong and safe, than to make everyone agree with me. The idea: agree to disagree.

But some issues are too important: if my daughter were to suggest aborting her pregnancy, I would do my utmost to prevent that murder, because I have moral opinions about abortion. I would perhaps get to blows. . . would it do any good?? Maybe not, but I would have salved my conscience believing that I had done as much as I could.

Interesting question.

Yes, there are situations when fighting helps. The predators and parasites among us would love to have us think that fighting never helps; then they could overcome us. People like that are in the world and to a greater or lesser degree, they keep us in postures of defense.

I don't know that I think fighting is "good" necessarily..However, great changes have happened through fighting and chaos..Everything would remain the same forever and ever if there was never any conflict..So I think in some situations in order for changes to occur there has to be some fighting..

I spent 8 years in the infantry and have a 2nd degree black belt and I can assure you that fighting is always the worst option. Someone always gets hurt (even the winner unless it was just a one way beat down) and if you can figure out a way to solve the problem without a fight then why not?

Yes, when you are fighting for your rights, or atleast what's right. And let's not forget those important words of wisdom from the Beastie Boys "you've got to fight for your right to party".

Well sometimes it's either that or you're getting beaten up.
You cant always talk yourself out of a problem, and if it came to that, it's always good to know you can defend yourself.

So, as long as it's the last option and it's for defending one's self, then yes, it HELPS.

The only time that fighting is a good thing is when you get paid to do it.

Of course, if you are in imminent danger and need to protect yourself, by any means. Or, if you meant arguing if you are respecting boundaries and looking for an acceptable solution.

No. No one ever wins a fight. A fight should be absolutely last resort self defense. Best of luck to you.
