There are no tectonic plates found on the eastern coast of north america, they are all located on the "ring of fire" on the western coast. In order for there to be a volcano, there must be diversion plates, allowing the molten rock to seep out of the earth's crust.

the east is not along an area where tectonic plates are interacting. Along the Pacific, the North American plate is moving Westward, jamming into the Pacific plate. in the east, the plate border are in the mid-Atlantic, where plates are moving away from each other (a more moderate activity than the ramming of two plates), and we have a line of undersea volcanoes plus Iceland's volcanoes.

The Eastern rock formations are much older than the Rockies in the West...The Canadian Shield which runs through the Appalachians and Northeastern United States are approximately 3 billion years older than the Rockies...They have had their active "volcanic" period..

Volcanoes tend to be found along fault lines. I do not believe there are any Major fault lines in the east and Canada.
