Goldfish are cold water fish that like temps around 68-72 and bettas are tropical which need temps around 78-82 so for that reason alone they would not work. The tank is also over stocked so even if you would like to add a fish that is compatible you still wouldn't be able to. Fantails need a 10 gallons each while they are babies and 20+ each when they are adults.

This could work, but there is a risk to both kinds of fish. Unless your filter is really good, the ammonia buildup goldfish produce would not be good for the betta. Goldfish are nasty and poop a lot and produce lots of ammonia, and fish experts reccommend not mixing goldfish and tropicals.
Also, the goldfish's fins may resemble a betta's long fins and the beta may attack them.
Betta fish are hapier in still water anyway, and are labyrinthbretahers, which mean they rise to the surface to get air, so they don't require aeration. Why not get a small bowl or betta tank (small bowl made for bettas) and keep it near your goldfish?

The water temp of both fish are different. If you want them both in the same tank, one will cook or the other will freeze. Also, if your beta is a male, it will eat the fins off of the other male fish, no matter the species.
Good luck on your new fish.

No, they require different set ups. Also, the fantails might set off agression in the Beta.

gold fish are cold water fish and a Betta is a warm water fish. Gold fish don't like their water any warmer than 75F and bettas have to have water 78-80F You will make one or more of the fish susceptible to disease

you could add some tetras instead of a betta, based on what other people said about bettas.. i have two tetras and they are easy to maintain, because they do not dirty up the tank and they get along with other fish well. if i were you before buying another fish, i would go to the pet store and ask them what kind of fish would fit best with the goldfish.

They would definitely not be safe, I've seen fish shreds floating around in tanks when people attempted that. Beta are highly territorial, and don't like large spaces anyway.
