You just have to contact the office of the doctor of your choice. Ask if they accept your insurance and if they are accepting new patients. They will usually book you a first appointment and send you some forms to fill out.

Ask around your new town for what doctors in the area are well respected. You can always change doctors at any time if you don't like your first choice. If all else fails just look in the phone book or contact your insurance company and ask them to refer you to one.

Choose a list of doctors in your area that are covered by your insurance. Most insurance companies have online resources so you can just check listings online. Otherwise they give you the book to look through. Call and make an appointment to have an interview. (Some doctors are not taking on new patients.) Go with a list of questions that you have for the doctor, things that you feel are important as a doctor. Then choose which one you like best. It's great that you have your child's records for the doctor, there isn't anythings else you really need to do. Before your first visit find out from your insurance co. whether you have a co-payment or not, and ask the pediatrician if they accept credit or checks for co-payments. (Some offices only accept cash).

The first thing you need to due is find out if your insuracne requires you to pick a doctor off their list or of you have the option to pick any doctor you would like. (Many have a list of local providers) If the you can pick any doctor, ask people in the area that have kids where they take them. Then call around and make sure that they accept your insurance. Call and make an appointment. If you don't like the doctor you can always change.

some insurance company's give you a list of doctors that you must pick from and use. Your insurance card should have a number call them and find out. If you can pick your own call around to see who takes that insurance and if they are taking new patients. Set up an appointment. Doctors to not take walk-ins like an ER room.

Call your local hospital and ask for the names of a few doctors that are affiliated with them. If a doctor works at a hospital, you know they are good and well-known. Get the names of a few doctors since sometimes they stop receiving new patients. Then, you will want to "interview" the doctor. Ask them questions such as: what are their hours (this is importnant iof you are working parents); ask them if they have covering doctors when they are away and who they are; ask aprpoximatley how many times a year they go away.

Good Luck

Are there people that you know in your new area? Ask them for recommendations of who they use. (Be sure to ask WHY they like their doc.....the exact reason they love him could be a reason that would make you want to run the other way.) Then call the office and tell them you just moved to the area and "so and so" gave you this doctor's name. Ask to set up a first appointment. Then, if you aren't happy, be sure to try someone else. Don't just settle for the first one if you aren't happy!

if you have friends in your new area - ask around for dr's they recommend. then either through that or picking one out of a phone book, call and ask if they're in your insurance network...they'll confirm you are and tell them you'd like to set a new patient appointment. easy as that.
