To glorify God

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

Study the Four Noble Truths, and The Noble Eightfold Path. It reveals what this life is for !!
Our life is not to glorify a god, which does not exist. For god, as well as all the so called holy books, can not be proven. god can not be proven, for god does Not exist. The god-concept is totally fear driven. Driven out of a fear of a hell-fire place which does not even exist. This hell-fire place, as well as a blissful heaven place living with a god, does not exist, for they can not be proven.
The god-concept is fear driven. And any relationships with this god, are merely delusional, and are not founded on legitimate evidence, but on mere blind faith !
Through the observance of the 4 Noble Truths, and the Eightfold Path - mankind ends the sufferings in the world, beginning with oneself.
The 4 Noble Truths/Eightfold Path produces Peace and Happiness. And peace and happiness is what all humanity honestly is aspires for.
Tolerance and Loving-kindness, no harm, and forgiveness toward all living beings helps us walk in true peace and mental/emotional stability ! And this is only a small bit of information shown in the 4 Noble Truths & the Noble Eightfold Path - which has been around for over 2,800 years. And has proven itself to be very effective in every way !!

As a individual you are born into life lucky to experience it. You must learn to survive first to have food and water to sustain you. You must learn to be able to have shelter from the elements. You want to learn as much as you can about your surroundings and how to survive here. After a while you learn that you want to continue to survive and have the race of humans survive as well as long as possible. So you try to do your part to make sure the survival of all or the most is possibly. That is to say that we as a hole race of humans adhere to the concept that the good of the many outweighs the good of individual or Utilitarism. Life is for the survival and quest to surive the race of humans. To learn as much as possible so that this may be achieved. If there is a god and its possibly that we have a chance to extend our life past our bodies death that also is a goal of highest priorties not only survial of our children or other people children that is highest priority but possibly our sole if that is your faith.

For me, life is about self betterment and choice. Every day we have the opportunity to choose what kind of person we want to be. Actions are driven by thoughts and this defines who we are. Our life circumstance and emotions do not define us. We do not have control over the world that is spinning around us. Control is an illusion we create to make ourselves feel secure. You cannot control life but you can let life control you! Life is about realizing that you choose how you react to the world and all the people and circumstances in it. Life is about taking responsibility for each and every choice you make, big and small. Life is the opportunity to express ourselves in a metaphorical way. Life is about living in the present moment, not dwelling on the past or the future. Life is about breaking out of the box and living from a place of love instead of a place of fear. Life is about compassion and interconnection. Life is about balance.

Bertrand Russell writes in his book “The History of Western Philosophy” that there are two perspectives of seeing things. First teleological, which seeks “For what purpose a thing is made?” Second mechanistic, which looks for the cause of a certain thing (cause and effect). When we see around us, we see things which are made by men for a certain purpose, like a table, a chair or a computer. This is why we have a habit of looking for the purpose of things. Even when it comes to the Universe and life itself, we always wonder about their purpose. This is not a correct way of thinking, because the universe and the life are not created for a purpose, they have evolved randomly. In this context, there is no fixed and ultimate purpose of life. Therefore all our purposes depend on our inclinations. Whatever you are interested in is your purpose or meaning of life.

All i know is that we need to find that passion for life, that reason, for example to live life with the special someone and people you love, help what you can those in need, to laugh and have fun each day with your kids, to provide for them and see them smile and learn and be a happy family.

I know it is hard, i find myself to be confused and unsure of life so many damn times .. that is okay but then its all about finding the truth within yourself and decide what you want and in the process become a strong, happy person and people will look up to you for being the joyful expression of life itself and you will see yourself happy and fulfilled.

Good Luck.. I wish you all the best!!!

It depends if you believe you should have a purpose or not. Some people live for pleasure (hedonists)
I prefer to live to serve others or to make a difference in someone's life.

Since I don't believe in an after-life, there is no goal for me. But it's the journey that's important for me.

Life may have no ultimate purpose, but it still has meaning for me. Meaning is in things like: art, music, literature, sports, politics and other human endeavors.

Ultimately and to what end exactly this life is for, that's purely up to you, but my belief is that it is to gain knowledge and spiritual evolvement. The why of it is what I don't know.
