yes they are now proven to have been real by present DNA findings of a female archologist who tracked the bloodines of a queenly burial in the black sea region all the way to the steppes of mongolia to a modern female young horse woman with blonde hair and blue eyes!!she is the only one of her family that exhibits these physical traits andd she is an exceptional horsewoman and more to the point her blood is a "one-to-one" DNA match with the "hippolyta" of thousands of miles away inspite of all odds to the contrary and the march of armies back-and-forth across asia for thousands of years of war and migrations and the desemination of bloodlines!!the match is so exact that the ancient queen could be her sister by the same parents!!!these are very recent and exciting findings and point toward a whole new field of genetic and historical sciences!!the amazons are noted for having cut off their breast so that it would not restrict their aim with the bowstrings!!archery may indeed have been the uppermost weapon from horseback!!!they were depicted with kopis like swords on later greek poly-chrome pottery but these may have been "style-of-the-time" affectations!!lances and a small "buckler-type" shield seem more logical!!head gear may have been as elaborate as male warriors of the time and they captured much armour from defeated "male" warriors and were very successful until jason and the argonauts shipped them off in captivity!!but refering to the previous text they did escape this captivity to the eastern shores of the black sea ,joined with horse people there and intermarried with them spreading eastward!!

Afraid not. Amazons come from Greek Mythology about women warriors and yes they are said to have removed a breast so that they were more proficient at using a bow. One of the labors of Hercules was to obtain the girdle of the Amazon Queen Hippolyte. In another tale, Theseus attacked the amazons, they responded by invading Attica and were defeated. Theseus married the amazon Antioppe. In greek art they are represented as wearing helmets and carring bows and quivers of arrows like the Goddess Athena and later like Artemis (in a thin dress girdles high for speed). By the way Wonder Woman is also an Amazon princess.

Yes, the Amazons were mythological. The word "amazon" is Greek for "without a breast", due to the legend that they amputated their right breasts to give them greater ability in drawing a bow (the right one supposedly got in the way of the bowstring). This seems unlikely as many modern women excel at archery without going to such extremes.
There were, however, historical examples of female warriors. The Ashanti of west Africa had a troop of female warriors who acted as the king's bodyguard and enforcers. Zenobia, the Queen of Palmyra, led a rebellion against Roman rule but was defeated and captured. Cleopatra led her fleet at the battle of Actium, but chose suicide over capture and imprisonment. Then there's Boadicea of Britain who led another unsuccessful revolt against Rome.
There are probably other examples, but these are the few that come to mind right now.
Hope it helps.

Though there were occasional discoveries of female warriors, the Amazons are pure myth. This whole feminist belief that the ordering of the prehistoric world was matrilinial is unsupported by any archaeological evidence.

They used bow and arrows. They would cut off one of their breasts in order to get better shots.
