What purpose does repetition serve?

It really depends in what sort of repetition you are referring to. Many things come to my mind that bear repeating. Some as simple as eating and some as exciting as sky diving.

It imprints it on your memory better. It's a good way to learn poems, but not for understanding things like math or science.
