3X^2 + 5X = 0
X(3X + 5) = 0

X = 0
and
3X + 5 = 0
X = -5/3

You have to factor the equation.

3x^2 + 5x = 0
Factor out an x term:
x (3x+5)=0
Since the product of x and 3x+5 is zero, one or both terms must be zero.
So:
x=0 or x=-5/3

3x(squared) is three times 'x' times 'x';
5x is five times 'x';
We have "times 'x'" in each of the above, so you can factor it:
3x(squared) + 5x is equal to:
(3x + 5)(x).

So we have:
(3x + 5)(x) = 0.
Any number times zero is zero, so see that if 'x' is zero, the equation holds:
(3*0 + 5)(0) = 0.

The equation will also hold if (3x + 5) evaluates to zero,
so consider:
(3x + 5) = 0,
subtract five from both sides:
3x = -5,
divide both sides by three:
x = -5/3,
thus if 'x' is negative five-thirds, the equation will also hold:
( 3*-5/3 + 5 )( -5/3 ) = 0.

Hence the solution set is {0, -5/3} or you can say:
x = 0 or x = -5/3.

Factor!

This equals x * (3x + 5) = 0.

When a product equals zero, one of the two factors must be zero. So either x=0 (that's your first solution) or 3x+5=0 (work it out to get your 2nd solution).
