Because the government is made up of people, and people are liars.

Corruption will never end, because governments involve people. These aren't saints we elect, they are businessmen and lawyers, so we aren't even getting the cream of the moral crop anyway.

You are right only a total idiot would believe the twin towers and building 7 were brought down by those planes. Especially, since nothing hit building 7. Everyone watching the television that day and all the commentators stated that it looked like a controlled demolition.

Remember this, their lies do nothing but ruin their credibility. Why do you think that the country is so divided. No one knows who to believe or who to trust.

Maybe because...to quote a line from a movie.......we can't handle the truth. I have always believed that there are things going on that we don't, nor will we ever, know about. Maybe it's better that way. There are people in positions of power that know more about what's going on than I ever will, or want to. I would say we only know what they want is to know,....and even the things that are "uncovered" or "found out" are only the tip of the ice burg...only things that we are allowed to uncover. And I for one don't want to know everything that goes on. I am confident that even those people in our government who others like to call "stupid" are way more intelligent than people want to believe and I am confident that they know what they are doing and am willing to let them do their jobs. I am not naive, or asleep, I just accept that there are things I do not need to know.

I agree with the previous reply that you wouldn't believe them if they were. In many cases this is true. Further, they lie because we want them to; e.g. a politician who says I will provide universal health care and not raise your taxes is more likely to be elected than one who says that doesn't make sense. Think about it, Tsongas lost the Democratic nomination to Clinton because Tsongas wouldn't lie and Clinton would. That, and Clinton had a much better hair due.

Because it would be a lot harder for them to achieve their own agendas if we knew the exact reasons that they were trying to achieve said things. ie: let's get Saddam cuz my Daddy didn't when he had the chance and he didn't get re-elected or let's push this big defense bill through so that Haliburton, oh I mean some defense company can make a lot of money.

Because then you wouldn't vote for them. A politicians only goal in life is to get elected. Once elected, there is no way there are going to tell you the truth if it means you wouldn't vote for them anymore.

The same reason preachers aren't honest with us - if they were we would stop giving them money and letting them control our minds.
