everytime i try to download from torrent spy my laptop keeps saying can"t listen to port 10757

most likely that port has been disabled. that's why you are getting the error.
there are utilities that you can use to scan your ports to see which are open/closed. download one that is compatible with your operating system...

Sounds like your firewall is blocking port 10757, go to your control panel and you'll see you can adjust your settings from there. Then try again.
If it's not that, it might seem obvious but then again you might not be aware. Have you got BitTorrent version 5.0.3, this is the program that actually facilitates torrent downloads.
