That's a tough one. You have to be very careful about buying tools because most mechanics are VERY particular about their tools, so unless you know exactly what brand he uses and exactly what he needs (or could use more of) avoid tools. Maybe a couple of sets of overalls for him? Maybe a space heater so he can work in the garage when it's cold outside? How about a few pairs of work gloves? If all else fails, you could get him a gift card to Home Depot or NAPA Auto Parts or something like that.

A gift card to the local auto repair shop, like Autozone or Pep Boys if you are in the States. Or even a Sears (Craftsman tools) gift card, that way he can use the funds to buy what tools or parts he really needs, or might need in the future. Guys love the gift card thing. My husband told me that I should only buy him gift cards from now on.

choosy moms (like me) typically LOVE present playing cards - because we are choosy - so as it is very unsusual for her no longer to wish a present card. properly i'd supply her a card and write it in that you'll take her to dinner at the position of her determination OR get her theater tickets for some thing you're particular she'd like that you'll both get excitement from mutually. New Craftsman 3/8 & 1/2 inch socket set! Which has both SAE/METRIC deep and swallow sockets. Sears just had them on sale for around 50.00 dollars.
