There could be many reasons for tinnitus. And there could be an obvious and a common reason too. Ear has very fine hairs which flow in a synchronised fashion. When their synchronisation is disturbed, tinnitus occurs. Hence the pattern has to be reestablished. This can be done with the help of BHRAMRI PRANAYAM or by listening to slow song on a walkman. This really helps. If you are not a music buff, there is one more remedy too. Just lie in a swiming pool with your ears not covered with the head cap. The pressure of water on both sides of your ear, also cures tinnitus in some cases.

I don't know about Tinnitus but ear ringing is a sign or high blood pressure. If it is really bad I suggest that you schedule an appointment with your Doctor ASAP, and ask about high blood pressure meds.
