I am very partial to Barber's Adiago for Strings, which I know is small on scale when compared to the greats. I'd love some recommendations.

Tchaikovsky is one of my favorite composers. One of his songs was the waltz in Sleeping Beauty.

I guess it would depend on what type of classical you are interested in. First let me recommend the movie "Amadeus" it is about the life and times of Mozart, very compelling stuff and i enjoyed it emensly. Also for a little lighter side you can watch Disneys "The Sorceres Apprentice" I dont recall any speaking in it and it is almost like i guess you can say a play with nothing but symphony music, another excellent choice by me. I prefer Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky, (and newer "classical" by somepoeples standards) Henry Mancini, and Glenn Miller. But that is just my opinion.

If you really love melancholy why don't you listen to the pop/rock greats who have done it better than the classical composers- eg. Brian Wilson, The Beatles, Radiohead, The Verve.
