The DS has neat features that are not available to the PSP. But it has the touch screen options and you can still play old games from the previous hand held on this one, loading time is fast (PSP is not from my experience), chat rooms are available without Internet connection, there is a save option where you can be in the middle of a game, not pause it, and close the DS. When you open it, you can resume playing your game where you left off at. The DS also has more light in the screen so you can play your DS in the complete dark!! Can't do that with any other handheld without getting a headache from squinting

From my experience the PSP is not that great. Load time is slow, movies to get on it are too expensive and the games on the screen are too dark to see. Plus there is a larger selection of games to choose from with the DS. With the PSP your only limited to that particular games formatted for this handheld.

First of all, Sony is notorious for making shoddy products. I think we all remember the fiasco when the PS2 first came out (I bought one of the new ones recently and it broke within weeks.) The PSP had a disk eject issue at launch that gave it a very bad name, not to mention it's extremely pricy compared to the DS. On top of it all, Nintendo generally has what is accepted as a much better first party lineup of games than Sony (or any other company in the industry, for that matter.)

So, the DS is cheaper, has a better selection of fun games and has no history of chronic malfunction. To me, the choice is clear.
