Hi there,
I asked myself that same question less then 3 months ago and was very impressed with the information I found on www.petsmart.com. There you can type in the question you have in there search que and it will give you deatiled information on everything you will need to start up your tank. I printed it out and brought it with me to Petsmart. One word of advice. Print out the sale prices that they offer online and they will honer the sale price online that they DO NOT offer in the store.
Remember start off slow and follow directions, dont add to many fish at once and keep your yank healthy and clean and you and your family will enjoy your new pets! I have a 30 gallon tank I purchased years ago and never had the chance or the space to fill it till now..

Petsmart (and most all others fish stores) give out the wrong information.
www.aquariacentral.com has a forum and lots of people with great information.
