My husband and I are expecting our first child in August 2007! We want to announce it to our families at Christmas when I will be 7 weeks pregnant. Then we will announce it to our friends after 12 weeks. We are just too excited to wait since its our first pregnancy!

When did you tell your family you were pregnant?

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY FIRST WE TOLD EVERYONE RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE WE WERE VERY EXCITED....THEN I MISCARRIED. WE HAD TO THEN TELL EVERYONE WE LOST THE BABY. WHEN I GOT PREGNANT WITH MY SON WE ONLY TOLD MY PARENTS AND HIS WHEN WE FOUND OUT AND THEN AFTER WE WERE DONE WITH THE FIRST TRIMESTER WE TOLD EVERYONE ELSE. WE DID NOT WANT TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE HEARTACHE IF WE HAD ANOTHER MISCARRIAGE. GOOD LUCK...THE SUMMER MONTHS ARE VERY HOT!!! DRINK LOTS OF WATER AND TRY TO STAY COOL IN THOSE LAST FEW MONTHS.

We actually told my father-in-law that we were trying to conceive and then about an hour after we had the positive test, but we also both work for him, so the circumstances were a little different. But we told everyone else pretty much right away too. We waited to tell all of our friends until we'd told all the family and really close friends, and then we just let it go. I know a lot of people wait for the risk of miscarriage to go down, but I would want support if that happened anyway, so we just figured they'd find out, we might as well tell them. Congrats!

With my first 5 pregnancies (2 miscarriages, one tubal pregnancy and 2 beautiful girls) I told everyone right away. I remember calling my sister at 5:30 one morning to tell her, right after taking a pg test. With the 6th (currently 19weeks pg with our 3rd girl) I waited until I had a positive blood test from the dr to tell my parents, inlaws and sister (about a week after I found out) and then I waited until I saw a heartbeat on my first ultrasound (around 7weeks) to tell everyone else. Good luck!! Once you see or hear the heartbeat you should be able to tell everyone with confidence, even before 12 weeks.

I was due in June and told my parents and my in-laws as soon as we found out! We couldn't keep it a secret, and the reason people keep it a secret is to get through that "iffy" first trimester, where the chance of miscarriage is greatest, but we figured, we'd share that kind of information with our family anyway, so there was no reason not to share about the pregnancy early on! We told friends and co-workers once we got through the first trimester (about 13 weeks). I was starting to show by then anyway, so I couldn't have kept it a secret much longer.
Congratulations!

I told my best friends right away.. my family needs time to let it sink in cuase they are religious and I am not legally married, so they need the whole 9 months to adjust... (very serious people). So I told my family before week 6. Then I told a few co-workers, and then (I was just so excited). then I thought, well, rumor will spread, so I tol my boss.. then I just gave up and told everyone... Glad I did, cuase I ended up sick and didn't have to explain while I was sick and deal with the different reactions of relgious people... Anyway, with my daughter, I told everyone right away, within an hour

I told right away at 6 weeks, I knew I probably should have waited but was so exited I couldn't. I waited until about 10 weeks to tell all of our friends, but that was like the longest 4 weeks of my life!

I told my Dad the next day, and my mom 2 days after I found out. I told friends 2 days later- I was only a couple weeks along at the time. I also told my work right away, but also that my doctor said I'd be fine to work up to my due date, so they would know. (I worked up to the day before my due date and was one week overdue exactly.)

Congrats and goodluck :) I think Christmas would be a GREAT surprise for your family :)

First Congrats!!! How exciting it is to keep a secret!!! I told my mom right away!!! Infact we told everyone right away with our first one.

But now I am 16 weeks pregnant with our second and I still told my mom right away but said we were going to tell everyone at 12 weeks but couldn't wait that long. So I think we told everyone at 10 weeks.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! My first baby was just born on August 3rd! We told out friends immediately, but we told out families after the holidays had all simmered down a little because we had just been laid off from our jobs and didn't want our families to worry too much about it! No one even cared about our job situation because they were all so happy about a new baby in the family. And we had 9 LONG months to work it all out, which we did =)
