You could start by disconnecting your Electric and gas supply.
Maybe only eat what you can catch or grow, and bath once a year.
This should give a reasonable understanding of what it must ve been like in the middle ages. O

Tracing my family tree back to before 1270 I discovered, via historians and genealogical researchers, that William The Conqueror was the first to have records kept which illustrated the lifestyles of many of the people in England at the time. From the Doomsday Book, the Court Rolls, the records of the landed rich, wills, church records and courts similar to our Magistrate's Courts, I have the impression that, except for the technology developed since the 18th century that life wasn't too different from now.
Men committed adultery and were made to walk barefooted and in rags for about three Sundays to church for their sins. This was usually after they fathered an illegitimate child other than one conceived after a declaration of marriage. Men liked to have their intended proved to be fertile before marriage. There were the usual cases about rustling cattle, stealing crops, drunkenness and lewdness, boundary disputes, murder and kidnapping, divorces, maintenance for illegitimate children, vandalism and fighting etc.
Land was often bestowed upon the more wealthy but they had to pay the Court a set amount of cash every year for the privilege. They rented out parts of their lands to others who sublet them to poorer folk. Those who had problems raising the cash paid their rent in kind with animals and crops.
There were mini ice ages and plagues in Medieval times which made life very difficult for the poor and as they could not afford to pay their rents during these periods many were kicked off the land they rented. The lack of funds went all the way up to the men who had to pay the Courts. Many became bankrupt and went to jail only to have others pay off their debts and seize the land in repayment. Rather like the banks and building societies would do in similar circumstances today.

Monarchies from that period controlled by force of arms, they had the knights and the trained solders to enforce there will, plus all serfs were brainwashed from birth to except there betters as a matter of course and didn't question the status quo . if they did they were made an example of in the most painful way possible and always before there peers ,so that nobody else was brave or foolish enough to try , in other words they were the medieval Mafia . there is a saying that comes down from that period . Do as i say not as i do

If you're thinking of how William the Conqueror controlled England after the conquest (which is what you seem to be saying from your additional piece of info), then basically what you need to look at are:
1. the Feudal System
2. Castle building
3. Domesday (as a means of calculating tax revenue and control through knowledge of who owned what).

Peasantry was stagnant for hundreds of years by that time. Nothing changed at all for the everyday folk, they knew they had to serve one master or another, should any change of ownership of land took place.
So techniques, that had worked successfully for a very long time, were passed down from father to son, or daughter.
You lived the way people had lived for ages. Full of danger and disease, and you just coped with it. There was no running to the social security because your house fell down due to a high wind.
You would pobably have had to sell yourself, for a period of time, to serfdom.
Tough living then, but you just got on with it.

I general mis conception of all people studying history, is that people in our past were some how differen't to us today. It's not true. We are all the same, weather under the rule of the Romans, or flying around in jet cars. We all need food, warmth and love. As simple as that. Ok people would not neccesarily have known as much about the world around them, but even then I wouldn't be so sure, litteracy levels were higher at the time of Doomesday than they are today (how do you know if you are being overtaxed if you can't read?!).
If you want to know How people coped, think about hoe you cope, and apply that!

Medieval monarchs had no direct control over their people, that control was held by the landowners, although laws were enacted in London they were enforced by the local gentry, as and when it pleased them and suited the situation.

william the conqueror came from normandy and whipped harold for taking the crown upon edward the confessors death. will says it was promised to him, though everyone wanted harold because they knew him as he was the right hand of edward throughout his reign. besides, they did not want any foreigners taking over in britain.
william came and some would argue that he began the feudal system when it was really mostly in place by the time he got there, he just kind of tweaked it some. he got rid of all things saxon and built castles for his lords. castles were considered weapons of war then as the were imposing and big and spoke of williams power. feudalism is when a lord (king-william) owns the land, gives the power to rule/control that land under him to vassal (trusted knights were rewarded with land like this after the conquest) who in turn had to swear fealty, loyalty to the lord, and submit himself and his amy to fight for the lord a certain amount of times per year. the fief is the land that the vassal held for the king.
william started the doomsday book in order to keep track of all his land, down to the last hog. he could be called the first data base king!
medieval people coped easily for they knew no different in their lives. they knew they had to work, were often hungry, and they were ruled over, and nautrally, their lives revolved around the church. serfs were given plots of land to work along with working the vassals lands. they were allowed to eat what was on their plot, but also had to give over some of theirs as well or work for so many days a week for them. they worked the fields for the vassals. they were given protection in case of danger for their labor. if they could manage to grow extra, they were permitted to sell it at a market. they paid their taxes in agriculture, usually wheat, but they could grow what they saw fit, mostly. i could go on, but i have to stop. i am tire of typing.

The previous adage nevertheless earrings authentic: only time will heal a broken coronary heart. only provide it greater time and you will at last experience greater valuable. it is unquestionably no longer what you desire to hearken to whether that's the actuality. or you could desire to constantly only detect a warm horny rebound guy.
