I have heard both words used but wondered in what context you use each..

burnt OR burned , VERB: A past tense and a past participle of burn. no differance just 2 different ways to spell the same verb

Pretty much the same. If you wanted to though you could say "I just got burnt" and "I got burned last week". If you wanted to separate the two.

Burnt is usually used to describe color like, burnt sienna (brownish red color). Burned describes something that has caught fire. The house burned down.

Burned is in American English.
Burnt is in Britain English.

Bith are acceptable, but a lot depends on what emotional context you wish to use it in
