Cost for the base World of Warcraft game - $20 US

Monthly fee - Varies, depending on payment method. Paying monthly, or using pre-purchased game cards, about $20 a month, paying quarterly or so by credit card, about $15 a month.

*Upcoming expansion, The Burning Crusades - $40-50 US, not required to play, but required for highest character levels and to play newest races.

first of all, you need to buy the game at the store, and the subscribe to play it montly (monthly is $14.99), or prepay by game cards. the first 30 days you play are free btw.

the one thing with starting to play right now, blizzard is just about to put out an expansion pack, which means most people will be getting that and moving on to different areas in the game. you can still jsut play the game without the expansion, but you'll miss out on some of the things (like different races to play, the new continent once you are high enough level to reach it, etc) unless you get the xpack as well.

here's a good site for general questions:

Its about 16 dollars per month. You can get a subscription where they charge you every month, or you can buy prepaid codes that allow you to play for a month. (then you would need to buy another one to continue with your account) When you buy the CDs you usually get a free month, and you can get a free ten day trial offline. (and download the game from the site) (But after the 10 days if you decide to continue you would have to make a new account and pay in some way)

I've been playing for about two months, and I find it very enjoyable.
