Actually, male bettas rarely kill each other. In Thailand, there are controlled betta fights. The problem with this here is first of all, the bowl is filthy and second, the bettas don't have any room to retreat. If the bettas were removed from the bowl promptly they were probably fine. I hope so, anyway.

People who have no respect what-so-ever for their pets. I hate people like that! I am a major beta fanatic and would NEVER let my boy's fight!! I also have girls and have them all together in a 10 gallon tank, except my crowntail female, the others began to pick on her and were just tearing her up so I instantly got her out of there and now she has her own 1.5 gal. tank all to herself.
