You can get FREE Internet security. Step one is switch to Mozilla Firefox browser, which is far safer than IE. Then the following 4 spy killers/virus killers/keep you safe programs are all free: Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Terminator, Adware Away and Ad-Aware SE Personal. They are all free to download and use, each does things the others seem not to. Spyware Terminator is my favorite BUT even though it does a 'fast scan' of my 120 GB drive in about 6 minutes, it takes nearly 4 hours for a full, find everything look everywhere scan. I only run the full scan once a month though, and it never seems to find anything the fast scan missed, but still wise is wise and if one has the safety tools, seems wise to use them. Good luck.
P.S. If you have cable or DSL, add a router. A router has a built in firewll, which even if you already have a firewall adds another layer of protection. Cost for a router? Can be had for $30.00 or less. Mine is a Linksys, and I have nothing but praise for it or for Linksys Customer Support which the dummy here needed to get his router up and running.
