It depends entirely on what the divorce decree says. Child support generally ends at the point the child reaches age of consent (18 in most states) if the judge ruled the settlement, However, the divorce settlement decree is usually a reflection of an agreement between the previously married parties and they may agree that child support continue under certain circumstances; in college, injury, to a different age, etc..
The federal government ends child support for its social security beneficiaries after reaching the age of consent (18).

Child support usually ends when the child reaches the age of 18 but i think if the child decided to go to college you have to pay for another 2 years. I think you may want to double check that.

oh yes the child support issue!!!!! this support business is different in every state. years ago it used to be till the child turns 18 yrs old or emancipated. now it can go on while the child attends college....
we to have this issue but we deal with this child's mother.
A GOLD DIGGER.....there is only one child now 16 yrs old. i don't see her going to college, but that can change.
if she attends college, we still have to give her mother $500.00/mth. but we will take her back to court and make sure the child goes full time, lives at home and attends school everyday with above average passing grades. also we will request transcripts from the school to monitor her attendance as well as her grades. if she drops out and doesn't pass then we have to pay lawyer fees again, to get the support payments stopped. we deal with and have been dealing with her mother who lies and will do what it takes to keep the $500.00/mth child support payments coming in----i know the child hasn't seen this money and the money has not been put back for her education,to buy a car or anything else for the child. this is what i mean about the c.s. issue----where does all the money go..if the mother had to prove how she spent this money on the child it would be different----but the courts don't see it that way...child support needs to be controlled by a separate agency.

Child support traditionally ends at 18, however during support proceedings it can be negotiated to extend for college. Usually support ends at 18, as the child then becomes an adult. All support will be outlined in the support paperwork.

That will depend on what state you live in. Some states it's 18 if the child has a fulltime job some it's until age 23 if they are attending college The family court in your state can better help you.

This all depends on what was in the divorce decree. Although, if it was just done through the state child support agency, it is when you turn 18. Go on your state child support web site, it should give you some answers.

18, or until their education is complete. once they are 18, the child support can be lowered (or raised accordingly) to accomodate college tuition. college tuition is covered by the 3rd of the cost by the non costodial parent up until the child is 24 or the education is completed.
