When attending a costume party, it isn't necessary to have a full costume, like one might wear at Halloween. Pick up a masquerade mask (one that covers the eyes) from any party store. Masquerade masks are usually covered in glitter, sequins and other fun embellishments. Just wear one with a decorative Shirt or Tank over your jeans and some nice high fashion inspired makeup
A regular party attire depends on the party, If its a formal party, like holiday celebration, Think simple, a cute pencil skirt, and a flirty top. (plain white button down with some simple ruffles or rouching). Dress up the outfit with a fitted sports coat/blazer, a nice crystal brooch (4.99 at any clairs). You will look sophisticated, stylish and classic, but most of all comfortable!
For a laid back, among friends type of party, where dancing or movement is expected, just remember to dress comfortable. You will have a better time if you are comfortable and aren't worrying about your cloths pulling at you. Think Shakira style, a fun t-shirt of any color, over your favorite pair of jeans. Then jazz it up with some accessories, lots of fun bracelets, and long necklaces (wear 2, or 3 have fun with it!). With the right accessories, you will look perfect in just jeans and a T-shirt.

If it is a formal party, you could wear black velvet slacks and a sparkly blouse. A casual party: jeans and a sweater. A cocktail party: A semi-formal and high heels. a costume party: almost anything goes.
