Sometimes I have really bad cramps, almost as if I am going into labor! Is this normal? I am 37 and these just started happening with my last couple of cycles. Sometimes they are so bad I can cry, they make me nauseous and then they pass after a minute or so....why is this happening now? I have never had any trouble before....

I stopped taking the pill about 2 years ago-I was told it was unsafe for a woman my age to be on it and because I had been on it for a long time-I really do not want to go back on it even though it did make my periods very tolerable....

Oh yes...I remember them...I always had them bad ...and as we get older our bodies change right along with everything else... you should see your gynecologist to see if you have any fibroid tumors in your uterus or ovaries...they are not cancerous but can cause you to have more pain and alot of bleeding and it's really uncomfortable....I had so many that I had to have a total hysterectomy and you really don't want that...The hot flashes are so awful and the mood swings are terrible...just ask my husband....really......before my surgery my doctor told me to have a half of glass of white wine the day I started my period to just ease it some but only the first day....and never ever take a bath as it does bring on more cramps and bleeding....hope you feel better....

I have the same problem. im only 19, but i do have that problem. ive had it since i got my period. my mom had indometriosis. (sorry, im not sure how to spell it) LOL. anywho, this will cause SEVERE cramping. ive just about passed out, cause the pain was so bad. im not sure if i have it cause i havent gone to the doctor, but im kinda thinkin thats what this is for u too. if not takin care of, it can cause infertility. indometriosis, is when some blood goes back up in ur tube, cause severe cramping. i would suggest going to the doctor, espically since ur just now starting to get this @ an older stage than me. Good Luck, adn God Bless!!

PS, what u can also do, is walk around, when i get BAD cramps, i cant lie down unless i have a heating bad on my stomach. then they will subside in about two hours or so. i do know what u mean, they are teribly painful. u can also try those heating pads that dont have the wires, u just stick in between ur underwear, and ur somtach, those work really well too. again, God Bless!!

My mother started having this happen in early menopause, at about your age. It lasted for about 6 yrs, and then her periods got shorter and more irregular for several years, until her periods stopped 3 yrs ago (she's now 49). Talk to your gynecologist about options for relief- high-dose ibuprofen, birth control pills to reduce and regulate your periods, etc. My mom did both of those things, and she had immense relief. A period "on the pill" is not the same as one off the pill, so it is much gentler.
