How is this happening? Who is forcing you to celebrate these holidays you can't identify with? Ah, let me guess. Is it because you are "forced" to see signs and symbols being displayed that aren't Christian during the holiday season? Do you uncontrollably begin to recite Jewish prayers? Does the sight of opposing religious symbols make you dance the hora without really wanting to? It's finally happened. The nerve of those Jews celebrating their holidays at the same time as Christians has resulted in brainwashing and unwanted conversion. God forbid you say Happy Hanukkah to someone Jewish, it might corrupt you. Better err on the side of caution and seek sanctuary in your church for the duration, it's the only way to avoid actually acknowledging that other Americans have different beliefs.

My question in return is "Who is forcing you to celebrate Hanukkah?" Iam not Jewish and no one is forcing me to celebrate the holiday. If you believe that mentioning the holiday along with others that take place this time of year well, this is the United States of America which has a proud history of being home to many different religions and nationalities. Having the liberty to celebrate your specific holiday is a strength of America and I am proud to be able to celebrate any holiday I please. You seem to have a problem. Maybe you should go see a doctor or move to a country that only celebrates the holidays you want. Try Saudi Arabia or Iran. Those countries should be to your liking.

Let me answer your question with one of my own. Why should I be forced to celebrate Christmas? I'm not christian, so does that mean that the season should be an affront to my own sensibilities?
Get a life and get over it. Nobody is forcing you to do anything. All that is being asked of you is to simply acknowledge that there are more winter holidays that Christmas. If you really want to get into the real meat and potatoes of the issue, then you need to know some more of the history involved.
The birth of Jesus did not take place so close to the winter solstice. This was an attempt by Pope Gregory to convert the "Pagans and Heathens" of Northern and central Europe. Solstice, AKA Yule, has been celebrated for thousands of years before Christianity even existed.
Happy Holidays....whatever ones you celebrate

No one will force you. That's absurd. People recognizing that it is a holiday does not make you celebrate - it just makes you aware that the holiday exists. What, did someone tell you Happy Hanukkah? Get over it. I'm not a Christian, people tell me Merry Christmas all the time, and I just say, "You, too!" and smile.
Smellyfoot, sorry you've run into people like that. Sadly, it works the other way too - I have know lots of whiny Christians who think it's just awful that everything isn't Christian-centric, even though there are like 3 other holidays this month. Some people are just never happy, apparently.
Ac, it's not a hate crime to say "I think it's wrong to be gay." It might be a hate crime to discriminate against a gay person, beat them, or verbally abuse them. If they are gay, you don't have to convert them. Tell other people you don't like it if you wish, but most gay people I know just want to be left alone about their sexuality.

Who's forcing you to celebrate them? In my entire life, I don't think I've ever been forced to celebrate any holidays at if I didn't want to.

Nobody is forcing you to celebrate anything. Why do Christians celebrate Jesus' birthday 3 months after the month in which he was born.

Wow, you really need a life if all you can do is complain about non-existent problems like someone forcing you to celebrate something! What did they do, breakin your house and set a holiday feast while you were sleeping?

I don't see anyone forcing you to celebrate anything. Just don't tell me that I don't have the right to celebrate if I feel like doing so because I really don't care if it offends you, or not.

This question brings up an interesting point...no one can FORCE you to celebrate anything. So why do non Christians get so offended because Christians around them are celebrating Christmas? I don't get offended by someone else celebrating their holidays...
