When out of the three major US sports, its probably the least followed of the three, tv ratings during championships furthers my point. It jut seems to me that either the leadership in the NBA has allowed this to happen, where you have a bunch of OVERPAYED and UNWATCHED talent getting into fights. Meanwhile the actual league itself is fading away into the background. Am I the only one who thinks this? Obviously there are talented players who deserve to be known more, and when stuff like this happens it hurts the good player's image too.

Okay, just read about it on ESPN.com..... the only thing that I can think of is "poor little rich boy" syndrome. Most of these kids grew up in the slums and fought for whatever they wanted. It's instinct to fight. Also, these kids (I keep saying kids because of their mentality) all of the sudden have money, power, and fame, things that they've always wanted. Now that they have it, they think if they don't get their way, then they are going to kick some butt in the process. And a few of them, I think, just fought in that scuffle just for fighting's sake.

What about hockey, where the officials allow fights and fans cheer them on? The NBA is not full of violence and fights. People are so quick to judge the players as thugs and start ranting racist things when something like this happens, it's a sad situation. You don't see a brawl like that happen every night. It's just that in the past two years or so, the NBA seems to be going down to the dumps, there's so much frustration is what leads to these brawls....from the Pacers-Pistons brawl, to the Knicks-Nuggets one the other the other night, to A.I. wanting a trade, and franchises that used to be great now doing poorly because the players who helped build them were traded...yeah, the NBA sure is in the midst of dark days right now, but the dark times can't last forever. And one more thing, don't judge all NBA players by the actions of a few misguided ones.

I'm not sure that the NBA has either more fights or more violence overall than many other sports, but the brawls are pretty vicious and more out of hand than most other sports. The reason why is that of the major sports, basketball requires the least organization out of the bunch. In football you have to get set before every play and there is an assignment for each and every player and they have to work together. This requires a certain amount of discipline. Baseball, each player has their position, and the pace of the game is slower and the interaction with the other team is kept at a minimum. However, in basketball, raw talent gets a player pretty far, and discipline isn't as necessary to play the game. Therefore the higher level competitors running on adrenaline are going to be more prone to getting out of control in an altercation, and I think that's what we are seeing.

My oppinion is that NBA players are not allowed to lose their cool during the game. Football players can spout off all they want once they leave the field, and Baseball players can stomp around the dugout (they are often seen throwing helmets and bats around). NBA players can't even say anything from the bench without getting a technical foul. They aren't allowed to blow off the built up energy from the game. So, every now and then they errupt like a volcano. The 'shut up and play' mentality of the NBA isn't very realistic. These guys are competitors and nobody likes to lose. Let them yell at the officials for blowing a call. Who cares? Let them throw their headbands into the crowd. If they were allowed a little slack on the court, it might not build up like it does.

Now having said that, there will always be exceptions. It is a game, and there are poor sports out there just like every other game. Does that mean that a good player who is a poor sport shouldn't be allowed to play? Or that a player who isn't as good should be favored because he is a good sport? I don't know the answer, but it makes guys like Michael Jordan stand out even more because he was both a great athlete and a great sport. It's also the thing that keeps Allen Iverson out of that catagory (in my opinion). He is a fantastic athlete, but his attitude keeps him off that top tier.

Then why go away the bench in any respect in case you are able to no longer mediate, help, or excacerbate the situation? The doggies are stored in line, whilst they are coached marvelous, what number gamers have been suspended in manhattan for leaving the bench for the duration of their combat with the Nuggets? I promise this rule won't be replaced in the offseason, and no proprietor, even Phoenix's proprietor, will ask to or vote for it to get replaced. You all are blaming the incorrect human beings for the incorrect ingredient! Stoudemire and Diaw knew the rule of thumb, and in the event that they did no longer then the Phoenix education team must be fired, yet they left the bench, Stoudemire became for sure going after Horry by making use of the way he would not even lots as look at Nash. the place the NBA screwed up is allowing the Spurs to mug and low value shot the Suns for the 1st 5 video games of that series. BLAME the main suitable human beings FOR the main suitable ingredient!!!!!!! 'reason i'm ill or having to anser this question, quickly i'm gonna initiate doing what I did with the Kobe vs. whomever questions.

It's not that the NBA is full of violence and fights. It's just that the violence and fights are what make the airwaves. People aren't interested in the good that is done on a daily basis, they want the dirt. Same goes for the evening news, we don't have the good stuff reported to us, just the bad. We can't judge the whole elague because of the acts of a few ill-mannered people. That and I hate to say it. But you can take the players out of the "hood", but you can't take the "hood" out of the players.

NBA players, like so much of our young aduts, are exposed to their enviroment thru the media such as TV and music. And these mediums are about drugs , sex and violence where it used to be completely the other way when I was a kid. So, you can blame the players. They have to be responsible for their actions but , God knows I'm not a screaming liberal, all of modern society is responsible too. The League cares about ratings and filling $1,000 courtside seats! SCREW THEM. The sneaker and clothing companies throw untold millions at these young men, who, for the most part , are poorly educated and have possee's surrounding them that are bad influences. I WILL NOT WATCH THE NBA. And i love hoops ! College only. Suspend these guys for a year w/o pay... THEN IT WILL STOP.

Uh...

Hockey has a fight every game. NFL has an exchange every game. The NBA is far down on the fight scale

Have you ever played with your buddies, seen a guy maybe get hit too hard, or think he deserved a foul, then he starts being a big baby about it? It's really the same thing.

The reason they fight is because they want to keep a "thug" image. They know they play a sport the involves little contact and in order to keep their image they need to act like total idiots. And to compare hockey fights to basketball fights is ridiculous. In hockey, fights are LEGAL. No other sport allows that. In hockey they fight for a real reason and because thay can. Maybe their was a reason to fight during that game, but they know they cant fight. They should of used their brains but insteasd they are suspended for 10 or more games. You cant really call it a fight anyways. All i saw was ***** slaps.

Why aren't these players arrested? When ever a Fan is involved they are handcuffed and taken away by Police to awaiting squad car.
