well, there is a myth that it gives baby less room so baby could get tangled in the cord, i dont know how true it is, but with my 1st and 2nd pregnancies, i always crossed my legs as i never heard of the myth, but the cord was wrapped round both their necks at birth. so once i heard the myth i never crossed my legs with my 3rd and it werent wrapped round her at birth....could be co-incidence but im not sure, worth not taking the risk anyway.

Well i was just told a couple of days ago even though i am not pregnant not to fold my legs because it diminishes the blood flow circulating throughout your body and can sometimes cause a blood clot . And as for being pregnant there is an extra person using much more than if you weren't pregnant.

You're not supposed to fold your legs if you have heart or circulation problems either. When you are pregnant you put more strain on your heart & circulation. It's also better to sleep on one side than the other for this reason. It makes it easier for your body. Web Md can show you how the circulation runs through your body. If you cross the legs it creates a barrier like a kink in a garden hose if that helps you picture it better.

Pregnant or not.. crossing them will give you the varicose veins.. but while pregnant.. the only think I can think of is Blood Clots.
You want to keep your blood flow going.. and crossing the legs could slow it down. Increase Estrogen from being prengant is the risk for Blood Clots.. so crossing them could make you at risk.

I have two children, with one on the way and have 'folded' my legs with all of them. Did they give you a reason why? I can't come up with any reason not to. It'd be impossible anyways to not fold your legs.

My mom told me this all the time!
She never gave ma a reason though- but I think that it is because it can cause circulation problems and varicose veins...but I didn't get any and I crossed my legs a lot!

I was actually in hospital yesterday, and was sititing on the bed with my legs crossed and the doctor told me not to, apparently its not just the varicose veins that are the problem, your blood consistency changes, and it makes it easier to clot.

I think its that you shouldn't sit with your legs folded underneath you like when you sit on the sofa. This is because it can restrict the blood flow and cause you varicose veins xxxxxx
