Sure, we have a great healthcare system in the United States.....for those who can afford it. We live under a system where the more money you make, the better healthcare you get and receive. We are the only free-industrialized nation, where we have elderly that are forced to make a choice to take their medicine or eat, because they can not afford both. We are the only free-industrialized nation, where we have citizens, who do not even have health insurance or the means to pay for healthcare. You may say "get a job", but in some areas in America jobs are "scrace" and not obtainable.....so, for these poor citizens in these conditions, the only solution is.....do not get sick or injured. Oh, yes, some have innocent children, too. So, I think it is time to stop getting so defensive of this politicial party and that one and "pull our heads out of the sand" and start taking a stand for those in America who NEED healthcare. So, you can either be a defender of "greed" or "compassion".

What you need to do is some research on the income tax. Find out how much missing money there was last year and then tell me that health care is the largest money maker for the government. Hell, don't you want to know where your tax money is going.

I think that access to medicine and doctors takes precedence over unemployment checks and welfare of other kinds.
However, government funded healthcare needs to be approached with much forethought, to prevent corruption, because of the large percentage of the economy which is healthcare, and turning that into an arm of government and letting the corrupt criminals in washington have any control over that kind of money and interfere in doctor/patient relationships is a recipe for disaster.
I am open to the idea on the following conditions:
LINE ITEM VETO passed.
PORK SPENDING eliminated.
HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ALL UNDER POVERTY LINE, but not above, in the form of credits which can only be spent on health insurance, not traded for crack, and you are able to choose from private companies so there is free market competition.
The legislation that covers this needs to be less than 10 pages of information, maximum, in plain, non-technical language that everyone with an IQ of 75 or higher can understand, so that the people can have oversight into the government's handling and execution of this new law, and prevent legal loopholes which allow for corruption and abuse.
OVERALL SPENDING NEEDS TO BE REDUCED in order to combat this massive expense. This needs to replace current medicare and medicaid entitlements.

First of all, Nealy everything you stated in your question is just plain wrong.
Second, based on your question, I am assuming that you think the government is the answer. If I'm wrong in that assumption, I apologize, but it seems like the most logical conclusion based on your question.
Third, I respect your intentions. However, like the saying goes: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions". Here is the problem with your "compassion": you have blinders on and only see the compassion that you intend, and totally ignore the pain that it will cost.
Let me spell it out for you: anything the government does is paid for by taxes. That is their only source of revenue (except tariffs, but we pay that in the long run too), they do not make or produce anything. Taxes are paid by all of us. You, me, rich, poor, middle class, everyone. We do not have a choice in paying taxes (other than going to prison). For the government to provide health services, means that it will be paid for by taxes, meaning that you, me, and everyone will pay higher taxes, meaning we will have less money that we rightfully earned through hard work.
So, for you to FEEL "compassionate" means that my hard earned money will be stolen from me and given to somebody else. This means that my children will have less to eat, less chance of getting an education, and fewer opportunities to succeed. Where is your "compassion" for my children? Where is your "compassion" for the millions of other families that will have their money stolen, so that you can feel better?
And who gets this stolen money? People that smoke 3 packs a day and get lung cancer? People that go to the bathroom and don't wash their hands? People that drive 100 in a 50 when it's raining? People that play sports and get injured? People that didn't buy health insurance so they could buy an SUV? People that live alone, but could live with relatives and just don't want to? People that just get lucky enough to live to age 65? (why not 64, or 68 or 50, or 10?) Who deserves your "compassion" so much that you are willing to literally steal food out of the mouths of MY children? Where is your compassion for my children?!?!?!?!!?!?
If you are willing to steal my money just to make yourself feel compassionate, does that make you a defender of greed or compassion?

Boy are you confused. Health care is available for everyone. Go to any hospital in any city and just look at the new babies that were just born to illegal aliens. They didn't pay for the birth, the county did, as in with taxpayers money.

HEALTH CARE IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST MONEY MAKERS FOR PRIVATE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES. THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T MAKE MONEY OFF OF IT THEY ARE PAYING INTO IT. YOU MAKE IT SEEM LIKE IT'S THAT SIMPLE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO SOCIALIZE MEDICINE THEN THEIR WILL BE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS LAID OFF IN THE MEDICAL AND HOSPITAL FIELD. MORE PEOPLE TO TAKE CARE OF. MEDICINE IS A BIG BUSINESS. BESIDE WE HAVE MEDICAID FOR THOSE THAT NEED HELP.
