I can't give you a definitive answer, as I've never used it. I've been told it works over painted surfaces. Since chalkboard paint is just paint, it should work. The best thing to do is to go to Home Depot and ask someone in the paint dept. You could also just read the information on the can, while you are there.

Paint the magnet and then the chalk and you can use both. If you paint the chalk and then the magnet you won't be able to write.
