Throb as in muscle twitch? Stress can do that.

Throb as in pulsing pain? Inflammation and swelling.

What Causes Throbbing

Blood pulsing around your veins causes throbbing from being pumped around by your heart.
If you injure yourself like a sprain to an ankle you feel it throb due to restricted blood flow.
What you are decribing is a twitch NOT a throb, its just a spasm in your muscle

Most, but not all head aches are muscular tension. Try a warm compress to the neck and shoulders and then stretch. Of the many types of head aches, there are cluster h/a's, migraine h/a's (predominently, these are suffered more by women than men) and muscular tension h/a's. Others can be caused by simple things such as eye strain. If a head ache persists, you should consider seeking professional medical help. There could be underlying organic causes and contributing factors such as various disease processes that may need addressing.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.

You may have damaged blood capillaries or just nerve impulses going astray. A lot of these nerve impulses can be made by back movements or injuries.
