Drive moderately learning the times that the obstacles appear during the race, get to know what speeds you will be able to cut through small gaps.
Remember it is all in the timing onf the gear changes, learn the course well and then you can focus purely on getting perfect changes, too quick and you will lose all power, too late and the engine can blow.
You usually don't need to go absolutely flat out to win, a steady pace with wise use of the nitro at the longest clear stretch will give you the best results.
Time and Practice is all that can really help you master this but once you have learnt the style of driving with the gentle taps to change lanes, driving defensively cutting opponents up and blocking them from overtaking and blasting the nitro at that critical moment the whole time keeping a sharp eye on the gear changes you will love it.
It is seriously frustrating but once you have cracked it you will be hooked.

you need to use R1 and L1 to change gear perfectly,and then win the whole race

Just cross the finish line in 1st place, don't crash into other cars or you will total and lose, make sure to shift up too.
