I have just finished writing a book that i hope will be a movie , but i need step by step instructions on how to go about getting published . Do i need it edited first , and if so how do i go about finding one and if i need it to be copy right before its edited? I am writing a part two to a movie that i like.
If anyone know what to do please help me.

Consult the Writer's Market or Novel and Short Story Writer's Market books at your library. They are also available at bookstores.

Within are lists of literary agents and publishers that will state their preferences in genre, type of manuscript, and methods of submissions. A literary agent is the best approach for an unpublished author. Always check their websites for additional guidelines.

Another must-have reference grammar tool is “Elements of Style” by Strunk and Williams.

Format your manuscript in accordance with acceptable guidelines--always double-spaced with pertinent contact information on the cover page. Find the booklet, “Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript” by Cynthia Laufenberg. It is an invaluable tool for the writer.

Edit your story and then, hire if you must, have disinterested editors go through it and catch those areas that you didn't or cannot find. Don't ask relatives or close friends to edit your manuscript; they will hesitate to be truthful with you and already have their biases. Concentrate on catching errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Any manuscript submitted prematurely without corrections will surely be scrapped immediately upon receipt.

Learn how to craft a powerful query letter; they are the door openers to representation.

Your manuscript, once in printed form, is automatically copyrighted. For a registration with the Library of Congress, log on to copyright.gov/ for the steps to take.

After you have your book completely FINISHED, get yourself a copy of Writer's Market to look for a publisher. Then get a copyright on it and then mail it in to the publisher. That is my understand of what to do with it.

it's a screen play or a book? there are different proceedures for both. for book, you definitely need to have it edited. find yourself a book publisher to work with they will guide you through the process...or if you are self publishing try reading:

Dan Poynter's Self-Publishing Manual 1-56860-134-4 Trade Paper | $19.95 | Reference | Para Publishing

Step 1) Get the manuscript properly edited first.
When you've done that, post on the site again.

also, to be safe, create an account on www.deviantart.com with your user name as close to your full first and last name and submit it there. that way it will be copywritten.
