to keep it up to code you will need replace the whole run of wire, or use a junction box where the cable is broken.

if you're going to use a junction box, you will need to have enough play in the cable so you can make a splice in the box. to keep it to code you also have to make sure that you leave access to the box. you can't just hide it in the wall and cover it up with drywall or bury it in insulation.

No connections can be made that is behind a wall--concealed. You can not (code) simply splice it together with another wire and black tape and cover over it. One could --but not only would it go against code , but good common sense. You may have to use 2 wall boxes --one on either damaged wire ends--and then run a connecting wire between the 2 boxes--connect the wires in each box using wire nuts, and put a blank cover on each to finish out the job.One box will do if there is enough slack in the damaged wiring. Merry Christmas.

Purchase an electrical connector from an electronics store. Get the one that has the plastic outer coating with copper screws that can be screwed down. The electrical connector should have a slot for the electrical wires to pass through.
Shave off the insulation and insert the bare wires into the housing, from either side and then tighten the screws.

If you can't get the connector, then shave down the wires, and twist together, and individually wrap each connection with electrical tape.

Remember to disconnect the power before begining.

isolate the cicuit the cables are part of. carefully run a stanley knife down the exact centre of the cable from about two inches above and below the damaged bit. peel back the insulation and see which cable is damaged. hopefully it's just one. get a cable crimping set and join the damaged cable using a proper crimp. usually red for lighting and blue for socket cable. fold back the insulation, as best you can, and get a short piece of plastic capping from any electrical wholesaler to cover the cable. then plaster up.

you may be status or protecting onto electric powered cables like they do, as long as you do not contact the floor. If the birds may be touching the pole and the cord at the same time, they'd be fried in below a 2d. this occurs because electrical energy want a fashion to get in AND flow out to have an result. the undeniable truth that you're not any further touching the floor, you're not any further grounded and that is why you received't get zapped

turn off the power and expose the damaged cable. cut the wire cleanly and connect it back together with a connection box (from b & q or similar). cover it fully with insulation tape, put back in the wall and fill the hole.

you know to turn off the power source. then get a small piece of the same type of electrical wiring and splice it into the cut piece using electrical tape and "wire nuts". Be sure to connect white to white, black to black, etc.
