A rule of thumb for a long scarf is to knit it as long as the person is tall. So 6' 6" would be perfect.

Well my husband is 5'9" and the scarf I knit him I think is 57" long. So go for 70". Or longer if he likes to have it hanging longer on either side.no more than 100" I'd say.

It depends. If you live in a cold climate and the scarf will actually be used for warmth, knit his height plus one foot to wrap around the neck.

If you live in a relatively warm climate (like San Francisco) and are making the scarf for style, knit it to his height.

Maybe 3-4 feet? I usually knit for somewhat short people.

My biggest tips:
-Use thick yarn and fat needles
-Use another scarf length on him as a guide to length.
