What are the current politically correct names for the following catergories? They change quite often:

Blacks: afro-americans, african-americans, colored, blacks, ******?

Whites: caucasions, whites?

Mexicans: hispanics, mexicans?

Indians: native americans, indians?

Homosexuals: gays, lesbians, homosexuals?

Notice I'm not including any slang or negative terms. I'm looking for the politically correct labels.

Black: black or African-American both work. Afro-American isn't really acceptable anymore. Colored and ***** are offensive now.

White: they both work, most people just say white

Mexican: if I know they are from Mexico, I say Mexican. If I'm unsure I just say Hispanic.

Indians: You cannot say 'Indian' when you mean Native American because Indians are from India.

Homosexuals: Gay or lesbian is fine. If you say 'homosexual' you sound like a bigot these days, not sure exactly why.

African-American

Mexicans are Hispanic, but Caribian people are Latino.

Native American or American Indian... though most prefer to be known by their own tribe if you know what that is.

GLBT = Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgendered is used in Scholarly discussion

And yes, it does make a difference if you are writing anything publishable to be politically correct.

Why your at it should we refer to women as gyno-Americans in the interest of being politically correct. Should I order my cup of coffee African instead of black? Why worry about offending people anyway, nobody cares about what is offensive to me anymore. All of this PC stuff has gone way to far.

Caucasions
Mexicans / Mexican People
Native-American
Speaking for my people on the last option any applies just stay away from fag, ******, Mary, Homo, Butch (for lesbians) or any other offensive term. Gay + Homosexual applied to both women and men, lesbian is a more specific term for females who like females, not for gay boys.

The "politically correct" way of saying things changes weekly based on what we are told to do! I would use something tried and tested that is not racist and you should be fine.

Cheers!

Why not call them all people, or their given names, and leave all the categories behind? This will show that you respect them as people, not categories to generalize about.
