A solid turning into a liquid would be called "melting".
Maybe you wanted to ask "what is it called when a solid turns directly to a gas without first becoming a liquid?"
That then is "sublimation".

just melting - I think you mean solids turning to gases and it may be sublimation? Run a search on phase transitions.
