Our family breaks away from the traditional Christmas foods. We have a Mexican feast. We have tamales, enchiladas, tacos, chili, rice, beans and cornbread. For dessert, we have a choice of the following: lemon or chocolate pie, cherry cheesecake, banana spit cake or tons of different cookies. Everything is homemade! And I mean everything! My mom makes it all. She loves doing this and she is 71 years old! She does not want anyone helping her. The only thing we do is go to her house early in the morning and get everything set up - tables, chairs, etc. The food is delicious. My whole family are big eaters and we have such a good time. It is one of the only times our whole (immediate) family gets together. There are about 20 of us and we have so much fun laughing, telling jokes and just being around each other. This year will be special, because my nephew will be here from Iraq and we haven't seen him in over 2 years! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Enjoy your time with your husbands best friend and try to make some memories!

My dad's side of the family is Japanese ... so we do a huge dinner with Ham, Fried Rice, Won Tons ( filled with beef ) Sweet & Sour Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Veggies, Sushi & of course dessert ... usually a Strawberry Angel Food Cake - home made courtesy of Grandma Yuriko ( Lillian ) ... yummy ... !

On my mom's side we have the traditional - Turkey, Ham, Mashed potatoes & gravy, Yams, Stuffing, Rolls ... etc ... !

If they're guys and are into football ... maybe just cook something easy like Chili, hot dogs, veggies, chips & dips, pizza rolls, mini sausages ... etc ... finger food buffet .... nothing like pigging out on munchies watching football all day ... lol ... !

That would depend on the atmosphere of the dinner. If you were doing something elegant try fish or filet mignon. If it's a bit more casual, a london broil or roasted chicken is a fine choice.
