A parasite lives off of its host until the host dies. It appears that the human capacity to generate beautiful good through the ability to solve problems and create and use symbols for expressions is also equally on par with being able to generate dispicable greed. The human inability to supress our animal instincts leads us to perpetrate deeds which could be considered 'evil' in religious terms.

Therefore, is our ability to learn and solve problems, combined with our instinctual habits to think selfishly in order to gain more in symbolic materialistic possessions the main cause to our downfall as a species?

Does this mean that the human species is in actuality a parasite to the planet, just as a tapeworm?

Is humanity just a colony of tapeworms (lol)?

Humans are more like a virus or bacteria in which we need to use resources from our host in order to replicate. What makes humans a "virus" or "bacteria" is that we take more then what can be supplied or we negatively effect the host. Most animals and plants in their native regions balance out and do not take more than they give. But humans take many MANY things from the earth but give little to nothing back (things givin back = spit, urine, feces, CO2)(things taken = paper, food, drink, chemicals... etc.)

Downfall as a species?!?!? What downfall??? We are one of the most successful species ever!

As far as being a parasite, you might say the same thing about any other creature that consumes resources. Humans *are* a natural cause. Live with it! There are many species throughout history that have so befouled their own nest that they went the way of the dodo. However, it is true that because of our big brains we have found some rather cleaver and insidious ways to affect our environment. Fortunately, we have the capacity to recognize this and correct these behaviors. It's called "innovation".

So... instead of whining about how evil humans are, how about studying hard, going to an institute of higher learning and getting a degree in chemistry, engineering, biology, or some other likely field and contribute to discovering better ways of doing things!

Sure, we are - if you want to look at it that way. We're parasites, the animals, the trees, the flowers, the grass, the carrots, the squirrels, and the lawyers.

If this planet earth is considered an organism, then every living thing aboard is a parasite.

so what's the point? oh yeah, I'm supposed to feel bad or something. Psshhhtt!!!

Wow, I have been saying that for years, not as tapeworms, but as fleas or other insects. I think all the diseases that appear out of nowhere, mad cow, aids, TB, Lyms disease etc, are the earths way of trying to cleanse itself of us! Yes we have infected the earth, and are slowly destroying it.
