i have a zen touch and while doing a firmware update the upload failed, my zen touch is now unusable because even though windows recognises an external player/portable device i cant get the firmware loaded back on to it, i have downloaded firmware from creative but when i try to load it, i get a message that says no device is connected, creative said if i send it to them they will fix it for a price, my question is how do i load the firmware if the firmware load says do device. i have tried recovery mode but that dont work either, any help will be much appreciated

I had the same problem. You don't have to call Creative. You don't have to spend any money. Here's how I fixed it:
1. If you have Windows Media Player 11 uninstall it and reboot
2. Uninstall the WMP 11 Runtime format from add/remove programs ( you may have to check the "show updates" box) and reboot
3. With the Zen Touch connected, go to Device Manager and uninstall it and then unplug the USB cable.
4. Uninstall ALL Creative software including the Zen drivers and then Reboot
5. From Device Manager, uninstall ALL USB root hubs and reboot
6. Plug in the Zen and wait for windows to detect it. In my case windows showed it as "Creative Zen" and then changed it to "MTP Device."
7. Run the firmware update again. It should go ahead and update now.
You can reinstall WMP11 if you want after this. Be sure to get the latest version from microsoft's website.

If a firmware update fails in the middle of the process, it cannot be recovered. You will have to send it in. When performing a firmware update, make sure you don't have any other programs running.

i had that problem with mine i had to re install it from the website, then you have to update it from the website. if all else fails call the company but use your works phone as it will cost a packet... but they prob will solve it quick.
