I wouldn't be whistling a different tune because i wouldn't be up their this time of year. In this day and age of modern technology one would think that these hikers would carry the following.
1. cell phone
2. rescue beacon devise.
3. emergency equipment.
unfortunately their meatcicles now and it's their own fault, just like that moron who had to cut off his own arm. no cell phone, did not leave a travel plan with anyone etc... these people bring it to themselves and we pick up the bill.

I watched a documentary on this exact same issue on Nat Geographic channel. I suppose there are various ways of looking at it, but when it comes to places like where these guys are and Everest (which is how the media is portraying the difficulty factor), they definitely took their lives in their own hands and I don't think that others should risk being killed for retreiving a body (which at this point is probably all they'll be doing for the other 2 men). There are a ton of cravasses ( huge ice cracks) that these guys could have fallen into and no one woud ever be able to get to them. On Everest, if you die up there...you're left there.

I understand your logic, but if that were the case, we'd have to apply that to all emergency rescue operations. It does cost money and that is a legetimate concern. The lives of the rescue workers, however, seems to me to be a separate issue. Each of these people made a decision to get into that line of work/volunteering and can decide for themselves to quit at any time. These climbers made a stupid decision, no dount about it. We just don't have stupidity penalties on the books.

I was always taught to walk a mile in someones shoes before I generated an opinion. I can't help but think that If I were lost I would want to be found....no matter what the cost. How about you?

I agree, going mountain climbing has obvious risks involved and they took their chances. I do feel bad for the families of the victims however.

I agree, especially when it comes down to other lives being risked to save them.

Although I agree in principle with your position... I think you'd be whistling a different tune if you were one of the three!
