1. The Great Depression-this could be considered the reason behind most of the start of the war. The depression was not just in the U.S., but the world over. It is part of what allowed Hitler to become Chancellor of Germany and allowed for the rise of the NAZI party. Also, war is good for the economy. It gives people jobs in manufacturing and soldiering. Thus, joining the war for the U.S was useful as it would help to pull us out of our depression.

2. The German Blitzkrieg- This style of warfare was seldom seen before WWII. Blitzkrieg means "lightning war" and was the style used by the Germans. It was devastatingly effective in Germany's defeat of Poland, France, and others. Without that style, the aforementioned countries could probably have held out longer than they did against the Germans.

3. Pearl Harbor- This one is pretty self-explanatory as it is the only time that the U.S. was attacked on its own soil. This along with Japans alliance with Germany and Italy basically sent the whole thing spiraling out of control and drove the U.S to war in the Pacific and in Europe.

These are my top three but I'm sure others have different views. Thanks and have a nice day.

The bombing of Pearl Harbor(1) which in turn prompted a public outcry for retribution against Japan(2) which led directly to the U.S. declaring war on Japan....which resulted in Germany declaring war on the U.S.(3) and removing any roadblocks from full involvement in the war.

Of course the combining of Pearl Harbor was number one...but also the urging of Winston Churchill for defense of England. Roosevelt also knew by that time that Hitler was not content with Poland and a few other European countries

Roosevelt wanted us in the war, that's about it. Japan gave us the excuse, but we would have eventually entered anyway.
