YOu can't force him to pay you back. Next time, NEVER LOAN ANYBODY ANY MONEY if you are in a tight situation yourself. IF you give money, treat it as a gift and don't expect it back. That way you won't get mad at whoever and keep kicking yourself in the rear.

Go to the dinner and get your family fed!

Besides, Christmas is not about buying gifts for others. It is to celebrate the birth of Jesus our Savior.

You said your best friend owes you money. Well, if he's your best friend and earns that much money then he should have paid you back by now. I would tell him that he needs to pay you or you can't be friends any more. Do you have any proof that you loaned him the money, b/c then you could take him to court to at least get your money back. A real friend would help you out with your situation, and if he won't even pay you back he may not be worth having as a friend.

My rule of thumb is "If you can't afford to lose the money, you can't afford to loan it out." It's common that people who take a loan from a friend don't pay it back as promised. Somebody suggested small claims court. That will take time and money and depending on the amount he borrowed, it may not be worth it and it won't feed your family now. You may just have to cut your ties with your friend, cut your losses and learn from this experience. Sorry.

Next time he asks for money, and you have some, don't lend him any. Anyways,so it won't sound like your asking for the money. One day ask to borrow it. Like say "I'm a bit behind on rent, can i borrow some money". If he charges you back just tell him to subtract from what he owes you. Ones you get your money back cut the friendship, if he obviously doesn't care about your family's and your situation, their is no reason you should care about him. Just try not to make it so obvious, ask for a bit less of what you lent him, at least a bit less is better than none. Good Luck, w/a "friend" like that, you'll need it. =)

if it doesn't appear that he is going to pay you back i would take him to small claims court and get it back that way. they'll garnish his wages. you won't get it back right away but at least you'll get it back.
he's not your best friend if he jacked you like that.
