Yes every electronic good has a shelf life may be the lens and reader needs repair or there is problem with your CD writing software. You can reinstall and check if there is a problem with software or the hardware part.

NO IT DOES not beleive me I am a former worker at a computer store and CD drives dont expire. This problem wouldm roe likely be your program for burning. I suggest a better such as windows media 10 or 9 because those are free and are really great quality sound.

Technically, yes, they do.
The laser elements (distant cousins to say, a "light bulb" ) do not last forever. They last a really long time, but not "forever"
In addition, ANY piece of electronics with ANY moving part will not last forever.

Do your drives READ disks?
If they do, that might be more indicative of operating system problems than drive failures.

The good thing is, you can buy a DVD burner, nowadays, for under $50.00 US, shipped, to your door.

Try a different burning program...CD writers do not "expire."

No they don't expire.

Maybe they were not very good?

Try a good brand like LG or Plextor.
