I have a salaried position, but if I work over 45 hours a week, I get compensated for it with overtime pay. As salaried employees, where I work, we also get very generous bonuses throughout the year, plus plenty of paid holiday and vacation time. I've done the hourly thing in the past and much prefer being salaried.

I would consider giving her a salary instead of an hourly rate. That way she can plan on having the same amount of money each week if her hours fluctuate. If you want to go strictly by the hour, I was paid for 2 children $12 hour with the same responsibilities (the kids were easy to care for and I didn't have to do heavy cleaning). I would also give her gas money for taking the kids to activities unless you are letting her use your car.

Hourly by far cause you get paid for the time you spend at work. Salary pays you but it does not pay you for all the extra hours you might work. If you consider yourself a hard worker you get paid less with a salary that hourly.

Depends on a lot of things. Salaried employees tend to make a lot more per year than hourly employees, mostly because they are different types of positions. OTOH, if you are salaried you have to stay for long hours for no additional compensation, as well as coming in on weekends. You also don't really make your own schedule. Salaried employees are expected to put in typical 9-6 hours M-F plus working extra hours.

I get salary and at times it is great because I barely work but at others it stinks because I work many hours. I think it balances out in the end, but it's the times I work 10 days or more in a row that I don't like. But in my job, sometimes I do absolutely nothing for 2-3 days or more at a time so at least I can count on having that same money to cover bills.

There are definitely pros and cons to both. With a salary, you usually get paid more and have flexible hours, but you have to make sure you put in enough hours to get your job done. No overtime is available. With hourly pay, you have to put in your set hours. You do get paid overtime, if authorized. But your pay is generally less and you have less flexibility.
