Well I suppose that is true. Incidentally the story comes from the poem "A Visit From St Nicholas" by Clement Clarke Moore. Written in New York in 1823, the poem was the first description of St Nicholas as we know him today, i.e his appearance etc, a hundred years before Coca-Cola supposedly invented him.

Yeah, you're right. Mice are nocturnal, so they'd have been very active at night.
Obviously the story is meant to convey a calmness that was everywhere on Christmas eve. It's not supposed to be taken too literal.
