Well, for some odd reason, people think I have gone completly insane. Who else here believes in magic hobbits from the Shire?!

You're funny.
but hey, not completely insane. I used to believe that my stuffed animals were alive, that they just never showed me. They held parties when I was out of the room.
Some people believe in God, others believe in spirits. It's fine with me if you believe in magic hobbits. Maybe somewhere out there in an alternate universe there are little hobbit-like creatures that just happen to look like the ones in J.R.R. Tolkien's books. And they can be magical too. :-)

p.s. In case this is one of those "look at me, I'm just trying to see how many answers I can get to this question," type things, I understand completely. Really, should I meet my online bf? I just don't know...

Tolkien's hobbits weren't magical per se, just REALLY good at being quiet and staying hidden. In conception, Tolkien's Middle Earth IS an earlier Earth, in the Third Age (time of the War of the Ring). Today, we are in the Seventh Age. If hobbits still exist, they would be, according to Tolkien, smaller than ever and less numerous (and probably even more well-hidden.) I think his idea of hobbits was somewhat between the English country gentleman and faeries. The thing about Tolkien's magic is that you can't really pinpoint it; it hides at least as well as the hobbits; it is a necessary element of the joy of life, though, so I don't blame you for believing in hobbits, magical or not. Just don't let the desire ruin your life--use it to enhance it!

hobbits are obviously very important to you as characters or symbols. perhaps you should go back to the texts and films to study them as literary devices. figure out exactly what about them is significant to you. when i study an episode, event, or character from a work, its because something about it strikes me as being profound, so i go back to investigate why. i've found that something from an artwork strikes you as profound because it is appealing to a value or ideal that you feel very strongly about. its the artist's job to make you feel that emotion, and your job as the audience to understand why.
