I'm looking for a good sized tank for my turtles (75 gallon for two late juvenille RESs). I haven't been able to find one that isn't like a fish tank. It needs to be long and deep without as much emphasis on the height.

I could make it or buy it, but I need to know a good place to get one. If you have an idea on how to make it, please give me as much instruction as you can. I'm really kinda stuck on the $200 mark without the stand (stand will be another $200 I'm sure).

Thanks in advance.

You seem to know the tank size rule- 10 gallons per inch of turtle. If you have 2 young turtles, they must be about 3" long or so? That would mean about 60 gallons of water at this point, and you may as well plan for the next size larger.

You say not as much emphasis on height, and I wonder why? Deep pools are great for getting the best space a turtle needs for good exercise, feelings of safety, etc.

You should also know that glass or plastic sides are bad for turtles in general- they stress out over being able to see through them, but not swim or walk through them.

Many keepers use kiddie pools or big Rubbermaid-type tanks for their larger turtles. Cheaper, lighter, no glass sides, and tolerate disinfection well. Just give it a good cleaning before you use it. Bonus is that the biggest size is usually under $40.

Personally, I prefer the translucent (Sterilite brand, for example) tubs for most of my needs, but they don't come as big. I run a water heater to keep the water in the desired 75-80F range (2 heaters in my bigger tanks), run a couple large in-tank filters for cleanliness, and have an overhead rack with my lighting array- heat bulb, reptile light/UV-B bulb, and a regular bulb I use to create a dawn and dusk effect.

I use whatever I have around for basking. I like driftwood logs for naturalness and turtle comfort, but I also like some homemade plastic ramps I've made for easy cleaning. Tank decorations are usually limited to some potted aquatic plants.

we've 3 turtles in a 50 gal tank with 2 filters. while you're feeding them vegetables like lettuce that makes a large mess and cloggs up the filter out. confirm and sparkling the filter out cartiges out each and every couple of days decrease than heat working water. Then placed new ones in a pair situations a month. additionally we took each and all of the gravel out too. that truly helped shop the tank sparkling, confirm to at the instant are not feeding them too very corresponding to the different guy or woman suggested. that must be your substantial project.

Most tanks you'll find are fishtanks, not reptile tanks. Tanks made for reptiles have thinner glass, which should be avoided in anything bigger than 40 gallons. Just get a fish tank. Without the water, it's just a terrarium ;)

Try craigslist.com, kijiji.com, freecycle.com, etc. Check your local classifieds. Call petstores about used tanks. You may well be able to find large tanks at 1-2$ per gallon, used. It'll cost you more to make it.
