I'm applying to several colleges and found that I'm always stuck when it comes to writing the essay. What are some things to consider when getting started?

Research the college and the school you are entering (if any) find out what qualities they value and find situations in your life that reflect those qualities. For example, if you are entering a Business Major and they are looking for organizational skills, things like organizing a charity drive or a cookout are good points.

Gather all quality points about with your examples, and then write a story. Be personal, write the way you talk (minus the cussin and Slang) and talk about your dreams and goals and link it back to your past experiences. Remember though you don't want to brag, but be assertive. It's the same as if you were in an interview, if you've ever done any of those.

Final tip, be yourself. Don't exaggerate or make stuff up. If they are looking for something you're not sure you can demonstrate in the essay, and then leave it out. Show them the part of yourself that best suits the school, and make them see the match.
